Technicality claims Oscar submission
The Dominican Republic's likelihood of an overseas Oscar slot were scuttled on the technicality once the island nation joined "La hija natural" (Love Child) on Monday, the deadline. "We were not conscious that i was designed to submit what they are called in our selection committee people for that Academy's approval in advance," stated Ellis Perez, Dominican Republic Film Commissioner. Based on Academy rules, a listing from the selection committee people needed to be posted no after August. 1.The Dominican's film production output is not high, although a brand new film law should spur more activity the coming year. This season, only two local photos hit movie theaters, and one of these, "Pimp Bullies," wasn't considered right for Oscar consideration. The board from the Dominican Republic's filmmakers' association elected for helmer Leticia Tonos' family drama. The snafu is much more frustrating for Tonos, who's the very first female helmer to leave tobago.
